A new season of Rescue Me finds everyone’s favourite squad of New York City firefighters continuing to cope with their inner demons and complex relationships inside and outside the firehouse. Denis Leary stars as Tommy Gavin, a New York Firefighter whose life has no shortage of turmoil and chaos.

Season Five picks up as an unsympathetic Tommy is back at 62 Truck to await the hearing that will determine his future as a firefighter while trying to come to terms with his father’s death. Mike (Michael Lombardi), Garrity (Steven Pasquale) and Franco (Daniel Sunjata) buy a bar, while Chief Feinberg (Jerry Adler) announces that he has agreed to let a French journalist (Karina Lombard) visit the firehouse to research a book she’s writing on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. The presence of the journalist stirs up strong emotions causing Tommy to reveal his feelings about 9/11 and Franco to voice his controversial belief in a conspiracy theory.

This season includes a four episode story arc with special guest star Michael J. Fox, who portrays 'Dwight', a retired extreme sports athlete currently dating Tommy’s ex-wife Janet (fellow Canadian Andrea Roth).
