General Information

Video Content

At showcase.ca we give you an opportunity to catch up with top television series for free, under an advertising supported model. Show episodes are published to the website within 24 to 48 hours after they air on TV, and we keep them on the site anywhere from 14 to 28 days, depending on the agreements we have with our content partners. Shows that are commissioned or produced in-house remain on the site for longer, allowing you to watch them whenever you want.

In addition, we provide exclusive online content from some of our TV shows such as webisodes, interviews or behind the scenes clips. To maintain a consistent offer throughout the year, we also stream other shows that may not be currently airing. This content is published as it becomes available to us and remains on the site until rights permit.

If you have a content recommendation or request, please feel free to email us at webmaster@showcase.ca

Flash Player

We deliver our video content using a custom Flash Player that requires a minimum installed version of Flash 9.0.115.0. Some episodes use adaptive streaming technology, automatically adjusting to changing network conditions leveraging new quality-of-service metrics to provide a better streaming experience.

Content Quality

Our adaptive streaming technology offers content in up to five versions. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection the player will deliver the version better suited for an uninterrupted video viewing experience. Watching HD content, when available, requires a Broadband/High Speed (DSL or Cable) Internet connection. Please note that on shared connections Internet speed may be affected, the player may automatically downgrade to a low quality video stream to ensure uninterrupted playback.

Player Controls

To improve the user experience, player controls automatically hide during content playback. If you would like to display the controls, simply mouse over the video player area. Controls include Play/Pause functionality, scrub bar (allows you to jump to a specific time within a video clip), volume control, full screen mode, and dim (shades the rest of the web page focusing the area of attention to the video player).

Social Tools

We know you like sharing and we want to make it even easier. Our video players include a social bar that allows you to email a link for the clip you are currently watching or post a link to your favorite social networking site. Why is my show not available?

Showcase makes an effort to obtain the appropriate rights from content owners to provide its primetime lineup on showcase.ca. However, there may be instances where content owners decide to deny those rights, impairing our ability to offer the content online. We are working hard at making sure that all content acquired for TV is also available online.

When will the latest episode of my favorite show be available?

showcase.ca publishes show episodes between 24 to 48 hours after they air on television. This is a legal requirement from the content owners, one that we are also negotiating to allow video flow to the site even sooner after it airs on TV.

From time to time we may experience minor delays in releasing videos to the website. Please be patient and check back later to find out the status of the episode. We are making significant investments to improve our infrastructure and minimize delays in getting your favorite shows online.

Why are the full seasons of shows not available?

For some of our shows, we offer a free online catch up service and do not hold rights to maintain full seasons or episodes online indefinitely. For shows where those rights are available (commonly shows produced in association with Showcase), we can make episodes available online for a much longer period. We do our best to maintain those rights so we can provide you those shows for as long as possible.
