Misfits 3.05 - Girlfriend in a Coma

Thursday, February 09, 2012 11:26 AM

Kelly once again had the chance to shine in this latest episode of Misfits. When the probation worker comes to the gang with an assignment at the local hospital, Kelly offers to take the shift.

Right around this time, Seth shows up at the community centre, and the guys - Simon, Rudy and Curtis - think he's come to steal their powers. They learn that Seth is actually there to ask Kelly out for a drink. She accepts the date, but Rudy voices his suspicion … he thinks Seth wants to steal Kelly's power.

Over at the hospital, Kelly sees a guy leave a room all upset. She goes into the room and finds a comatose girl in a bed. Kelly's back to her non-rocket scientist self, and goes over to the girl to ask if she's OK. When Kelly touches the girl's hand, a body swap takes place. Kelly is now trapped in this other girl's body, and the girl - Jen - is free to roam around in Kelly's body. She checks herself out in this new body, then walks over to the body in the bed and apologizes. She says she has to get back to "him", meaning the guy who was in the room before Kelly walked in.

Jen/Kelly shows up at the guy's place – who is Dom, Jen's boyfriend - and tells him that she was a friend of Jen's and wants to talk with him. But soon after, she reveals that she's really Jen in another body, and confirms it by sharing details that only Dom and Jen would know.

Meanwhile, over at the bar, Seth is waiting for Kelly, and he looks really hurt when it appears that she stood him up.

Jen/Kelly goes through Jen's clothes and tries to make the new body look more like Jen, and Dom really seems to like it. She tells him that this is the only way they can be together, and he goes along with it. They hook up, and when Jen/Kelly wakes up in the bed the next morning, she sees photos of what she used to look like, but seems determined to stay in this new body.

This episode's b-plot revolves around Rudy and reveals more about him. The probation officer tells him that he has to meet with an anger management counsellor, and we get a scene in which Rudy reveals to Simon that the reason he's in community service is because his other half freaked out following a break up with a girl. Rudy is stuck in community service, and now therapy, because of alt Rudy's actions. During his session, the counsellor, Clare, asks him about bedwetting, which sets him off … he leaves the office and splits in two, and Alt Rudy disappears for a while.

At their next session, Clare hits on Rudy and they have a little tryst in the office. Rudy declares that he loves “therapy”. When alt Rudy finally returns, he says he's also been with Clare. Rudy refuses to be in a relationship with an older woman, and he tells alt Rudy that it can't continue. So Rudy dumps Clare, and then alt Rudy offers to take her out for dinner. She's obviously confused and slaps him across the face.

Now back to the main story ... Alisha and Simon happen to see "Kelly" outside the hospital, and when they call out to her, she doesn't respond. Around the same time, Dom heads in to see Jen, and tells her that what he did with her in the other body was not right. He asks the lifeless body if she knows who she swapped with. Jen/Kelly shows up and threatens to turn off the life support, that it's the only way they can still be together, and Dom tells her that he doesn't want her like this. Simon and Alisha find them fighting and Simon steps in. He tells Dom that he should go, and tries to get "Kelly" to leave with him and Alisha. She resists and ends up running into Seth, who confronts her. She tells him where to go and to stop following her.

When Seth goes to the gang and asks them what's wrong with Kelly, Alisha tells him about the fight they saw between Kelly and Dom, and they know something is definitely wrong. Alisha is able to use her power to find out where Kelly is, and sees that Kelly's in the hospital and it looks serious.

The gang heads to the hospital to find Kelly and end up in Jen's room. Alisha uses her power again and realizes that Kelly is trapped in this girl's body. Simon announces that a body swap must have taken place, leading to a lighter moment in which Rudy says it's like the movie Face Off while Simon counters that it's more like Freaky Friday.

When one of the hospital staff finds Seth in Jen's room, he says he's her brother. The woman tells Seth that his "mother" has made the decision to turn the ventilator off. The gang can't let that happen because it would kill Kelly. Simon suggests stealing Jen's body and taking it to the community centre. They actually wheel her through the hospital in her bed and out an emergency exit, setting off the alarm, and manage to escape with her in the back of a car before they're caught.

Alt Rudy finds Jen/Kelly, and he doesn't realize that she's not who he thinks she is. She tells him that she lost everything, and alt Rudy sympathizes with her. They end up bonding, and alt Rudy confides in her about Clare, saying that it was the first woman he was with, a stark contrast to the other Rudy who has a steady stream of meaningless flings.

Rudy calls Kelly's phone and alt Rudy answers. Rudy tells alt Rudy that it's not really Kelly, and he needs to bring her to the community centre so they can get Kelly back in the right body. Alt Rudy brings her there, and Jen's body is all set up. Jen/Kelly says she's not going back into that body. A tussle ensues and Jen/Kelly stabs the probation worker. She then gets into a fight with Seth, and he tells her that he was supposed to go out with Kelly, but it didn't happen and he'll never know what could have been. Jen/Kelly says that her and Dom were good together, but he doesn't love her in Kelly's body, and Seth responds that it's because it's not really her.

The rest of the gang is with the injured probation worker, and they tell him it wasn't really Kelly who stabbed him. They reveal their secret to him, and prove it through Rudy splitting in two. It doesn't look good, and Simon tells the probation worker he'll be fine, but he dies. That's another one gone. Wonder if they'll have a tough time filling the position again … seeing that everyone who takes the job "disappears".

Seth is the one who eventually convinces Jen to go back into her own body, and Seth promises her to bring Dom there one last time. Kelly and Jen touch hands and swap bodies again.

Kelly is back, and Seth asks if she's OK as he takes her out of the room. Seth understands what Dom is going through, considering he lost his last girlfriend to an overdose. Seth convinces Dom to go with him to the community centre to see Jen one last time. Dom says goodbye and turns off her life support.

The episode ends with Kelly and Seth together. Kelly thanks Seth for saving her, and says that they're even now, considering she saved him from the Nazis. Then they kiss. Whee! I never thought anyone would rival my love for Simon on this series, but Seth is slowly stealing my heart.

What's in store for tonight's episode? Let's see … Rudy ends up with a "superpower STD" after a one-night stand with an unknown gal, Curtis is having trouble with his gender swapping power, and Seth tracks down a superpower that he's been searching for. Fasten your seatbelts for this one … sounds like a crazy ride!
