Misfits 3.08 - The Ghost in You

Tuesday, March 06, 2012 10:02 AM

Well, here we go, kids, let's take a look at the Season 3 finale of Misfits!

We start off at the community centre, and a medium, Jonas, is holding a session with a captive audience. Simon walks by, and Jonas tells him he has a message from "Sally", if that means anything to Simon, and she wants to know why Simon "did it". Wait a sec … Sally? As in the second probation worker from the first season? A second later, sure enough, it's that Sally, and Simon sees her go through a door. He's visibly shaken, and when the others ask him if he's OK, he tells them he saw a ghost. We see the gang talking, and Sally is watching them.

I'm already excited by the episode because of the potential for other "ghosts" that might start to crop up - there has definitely been a lengthy body count on this series - but I'm also thrilled because Jonas is played by Mark Heap, who played Brian Topp on one of my all-time favourite series, Spaced!

Kelly goes to visit Seth and sees someone leaving who had just bought a power. Kelly is mad that Seth is still dealing, and tells him he's selfish.  Seth is having second thoughts because he knows he'll lose Kelly if he keeps this up.

Simon either zones out or falls asleep - I can't tell exactly what - and has a vision of Sally asking him why he killed her, and she says that she always loved him. Alisha comes in suspects that something is not right with Simon.

Sally appears to Simon in the bathroom at the community centre and says hi. She tells him that the medium brought her back, and Simon wants to know why she's back. She tells him that she shouldn't have betrayed him, and he tells her that he didn't mean to kill her. She tries to turn it around and say that she had feelings for Simon, and thinks that is the reason she's back. She learns that Simon and Alisha are now an item, wants to know how that happened. Then Sally asks Simon not to tell the others that he's seen her. Meanwhile, Alisha heard Simon talking in the bathroom and wants to know who it was. He tells her he was talking to himself.

The gang chats with Jonas and asks him if it was the storm that caused him to start talking to ghosts. He tells them he was a fake until the storm. Jonas asks if Simon saw "Sally" again. Kelly thinks what Jonas does is "bollocks", and then who walks in? Rachel! You remember her from the Season 1 finale, right? The religious goody two shoes who was using her power to brainwash everyone into being just like her. And how crazy is it that I never made the connection until now that Rachel is played by Jessica Brown Findlay who you might now know as Lady Sybil Crawley on Downton Abbey! Rachel is not sure why she's back, and apologizes to the gang for the brainwashing. Simon is curious to know what it's like being dead, and Rachel tells him that there is no God. She spent her entire life being good and devout, and it was all for nothing. Kelly and Alisha suggest to Rachel that maybe she's back to be a bad girl since she missed out the first time around.

Seth comes to see Kelly and tells her he has something to show her. He takes her to his office, and it's cleared out. He's decided to quit dealing because he doesn't want to lose her. He has money stashed away and wants to take her on a holiday.

I knew it was just a matter of time before another one of the dead probation workers would make an appearance when lo and behold, the first probation worker, Tony, is back! And he starts chasing Kelly. The last time he chased her, he nearly killed her - well, he did kill her, then Curtis turned back time and they saved her and killed Tony. Kelly hits him, and he says he's not back to hurt them. The storm caused him to go crazy and he couldn't control himself. Curtis tells Tony that Sally's back, too, and Tony wants to know how Sally died. While the gang catches Tony up, Rachel is getting drunk and making eyes at Curtis.

Simon is sitting with Sally, and she's eating chocolate, which she misses. She notices that Simon is different, more confident. She remembers when he was introverted, and she would worry about him. She asks Simon about the invisibility, and he tells her he no longer has the power, that now he can see into the future, and she wants to know what's going to happen next. The action moves to Simon's lair, and Sally sees the pic of him and Alisha in Vegas. Simon's phone rings … it's Alisha. Sally sees this and ends the call before Simon hears it and can pick it up. Simon enters the room and he is dressed to the nines. The boy cleans up nicely! Sally starts to tell Simon that what she felt for Simon was genuine, that she wasn't just trying to use him to find out the gang's secrets. Simon tells her that he has seen the future and that they are kissing in it, but he can't do that because he's with Alisha now. Sally tells Simon that if he saw it, it has to happen  … she needs it to happen so that she can move on, and that must be the reason why she's back. Simon decides that since he killed her, he at least owes her a kiss. Sally takes her top off and tells Simon that she always loved him. Meanwhile, Sally is filming them together on Simon's phone. Oh no!

While Rachel continues to explore her naughty side by getting high with Rudy, the rest of the gang tells Tony about the string of probation officers that have arrived - and been killed - since him. Tony tells them they're immoral, feral, and Alisha stands up for all of them by telling him all they did was defend themselves from people who tried to hurt them.

Sally sends Alisha the video from Simon's phone. Alisha watches it, and is devastated. She confronts Simon and wants to know how he could do that to her. Simon tells Alisha that things are complicated, but she storms out, and quickly spies Tony. He hasn't seen him up to this point, and doesn't know that Tony's not a threat, so Simon hits Tony in the head with a fire extinguisher!

Sally confronts Alisha and says that Simon needs to feel how Sally did when she lost Tony, and Sally tries to kill Alisha but Tony stops her. Tony tells Sally that she's not back from the dead for revenge, that she has to let Alisha go. Sally and Tony are reunited, and as they kiss, they fade away. They must have come back to find each other.

Simon tells Alisha once again that nothing happened between him and Sally, and that all he could think of was Alisha when he was with Sally, and that stopped him from doing anything he'd regret. He lets Alisha know that he only thought about doing anything with Sally because he killed her. Simon and Alisha reconcile.

Rachel is feeling lousy after her booze, sex and drugs binge, and wants to know why she hasn't moved on if she was back to make up for the fun she missed out on. One of the others mentions that Sally thought she was back for revenge, but it turned out that she returned for love, and something clicks for Rachel. She's back to avenge her death. She finds a utility knife and starts waving it around. In a shocking turn, Alisha's throat is slit, and Rachel moves on. Alisha dies in Simon's arms, and I'm in shock. I knew Antonia Thomas left the show after this season, but I wasn't prepared for it to go down this way.

Curtis offers to bring Alisha back, but besides the zombie consequences, Simon says that it had to happen this way. Alisha's death is the reason that Simon goes back in time, and that it all has to play out this way. The gang is a bit confused, and Simon explains that he's the masked hero. Simon needs to have the power to travel back in time. Kelly gets Seth, and Simon says that he needs Curtis' old power, but apparently Seth gave that power to the iguana that Shannon snacked on. But Seth remembers there is a similar power out there.

They find the guy with the power and Kelly gets him drunk. He tells her that he's going to travel back in time to change his life - instead of working in a call centre, he's going to be a pirate. Really, a pirate? Kelly lures him to Seth's and Seth tells the guy he's taking the power back, and Simon is there to help Seth.

Seth gives Simon the time travel power, and then remembers something. When Seth first starting dealing in powers, Simon came to him, wanting a specific power - to be immune to all other powers! Seth remembers that Simon paid him ten grand for the power, and Simon has no clue where he's going to get the money to do that when he goes back in time. That's when Seth lends him the money, knowing that he'll just get it back although he may not realize it.

The gang buries Alisha in the woods. Simon walks away from them, alone, and heads back to his place. He grabs the photo of him & Alisha in Vegas, packs a bag, and turns out the lights.

Simon joins the gang one last time on the roof of the community centre. He says his goodbyes, and Kelly tells him to go back in time and make Alisha fall in love with him. He tells them that he'll see them all again soon, and then travels back in time. He's on the roof, looking down at the gang, and who's still there? NATHAN! It was great to see him, even if only for a moment. Simon heads to his soon-to-be lair, which is in disarray, and starts over again.

We then see Seth just starting his business, and Simon shows up wanting to buy a power - the immunity to other people's powers. Seth isn't sure how Simon knows he has that power, that Seth had just acquired it, and Simon tells Seth that "a friend told me to come and see you." Simon pays Seth the $10K and Seth asks Simon what he's going to do with the power. Simon's response: "I'm going to make a girl fall in love with me."

In the final scene, we are left with Curtis, the two Rudys and Kelly. Curtis asks what they are going to do now, and Kelly says they're going to "keep their heads down, finish community service, and live happily ever after."

But we know better … their struggles are not over yet, and we'll have to wait until Season 4 to see what challenges they will face next.

Thanks to all of you who joined me this season here at Showcase.ca. It's been a really insane ride, and I hope to see you all again for more next season!
