Lost Girl Winter Premiere - "Midnight Lamp"

Monday, January 23, 2012 2:14 PM

In the opening of this week's episode, Bo wakes up to find that Kenzi has left the city with Nate, which presents two problems: 1. Kenzi won't be around to help Bo this week, and 2. Bo doesn't know how to use the coffee maker without her.  Luckily, the Ash showed up, and as it would turn out he makes a mean cup o' java.

As you make have guessed though, the Ash's visit wasn't just a social call. He wants Bo to track down Sadie (played by Lauren Holly), a fae celebrity who feeds off the adoration of her human fans. The Ash wants Sadie to give them more information about the Garuda (as you will probably recall he made an appearance in the last episode - watch last night's episode or earlier episodes here if you need to catch up), but it won't be easy. Sadie's an Afreet, a type of Djinn, so first Bo will need her containment vessel (no, it's not a lamp) from Ryan, the gent who gave her the bracelet (which turns out to have certain powers) for her birthday in the fall finale.

Vessel in hand, Bo heads to an A-list party to track down Sadie, only to find that Ryan is unexpectedly there as well. Working together the duo manages to trap Sadie, but unfortunately they both wind up getting trapped with her. Ryan then reveals that he's a Loki, and that he designed the vessel - probably in the Tony Stark-esque workshop he has that was revealed earlier in the episode. Unfortunately, he designed the trap so well that even he can't break out of it, and things go from bad to worse when Sadie seemingly kills him by pushing him down an elevator shaft.

Kenzi's may not be around this week, but Trick, Hale, and Dyson still are, and with their help Bo turns the tables on Sadie. Not only does Bo manage to put her mark on Sadie, which means that Bo's wishes are her commands, it also turns out that Ryan didn't die after all. The Ash will definitely have some questions for Sadie, but that will have to wait for another episode.

The subplot in this episode involved Dyson finding out that he can never love Ciara -  the Norn tells him that since he gave his love to Bo and wolves mate for life, he can never love anyone else. At the same time, Bo has decided to be with Ryan, who reveals that he's a dark fae.  Looks like things could get quite awkward going forward...

What did you think of last night's episode?

It was as good as an episode without Lauren and Kenzi can be. Which means... not really. But I appreciated the effort.

I thought it was quite interesting when The Ash said that Lauren has a very important role to play in the upcoming battle. In fact, that was probably the most interesting aspect of the episode, considering how predictable Ryan being Dark Fae turned out to be. As fun as they were together, I really couldn't care less about them.

I won't even bother discussing Dyson's pathetic storyline this season. Ciara was absolutely right. It makes no sense whatsoever. She deserves better - and so does Bo.

=/ All in all, I was a bit... unimpressed ... by last night's episode. Not exactly a lot of plot development, a fairly non-challenging job for Bo, no Kenzi =( , and nothing revealed about character development that, if you pay attention, we shouldn't have put together already (*cough* Dyson *cough*). Still absolutely love this show, but I'm hoping the rest of the season kicks up a bit more toward the usual standards of Lost Girl awesomesauce.

I like a lot about this episode, but I definietly missed a few things too.

I loved Lauren Holly and her plot line.

I liked the new love 'interest' for Bo and the idea that he was Dark Fae.

I'm a huge Doccubus fan, however I understand that ship might never be back and I can deal with that... however I really thought the lack of Kenzie in this episode, left a big hole (more than the lack of Dr. Lewis).  I think the relationship between Bo and Kenzie is so central to Lost Girl that it just didn't seem the same with it.

With that being said, I'm still hoping Lauren and Nadia get back from their road trip soon :)

Keep up the great work Lost Girl people!

Great episode, really liked it. Only things missing were Lauren and Kenzi...I definitely felt their absence! I hope at least one of them is back next week. Still, great job on the ep! :) On a side note, Anna Silk was looking especially beautiful last night, then again she always does ;)

The first thing I have to say is - please get your facts straight. Wolves don't mate for life in the sense of having only one relationship for the rest of their lifes. They mate for life in the social sense of living together in pairs but they rarely stay strictly faithful. So, what the Norn said is basically not very credible and she couldn't have taken all his love.

Talking about love. What Dyson feels for Kenzi, Trick and Hale...isn't friendly love feelings? No? Since he can't love anymore. Weird, isn't it? Again, not very credible.

Enough about the inconsistent wolfy love and move along to some dark fae love. Great that Bo's succubus'y lust side was shown again this week. She being a sexual creature should have snacks more often when she's not in a stable relationship, in my opinion. And who cares he is dark anyway, she is unaligned right, so she can sleep with whoever she wants.

It was odd not seeing Lauren and Kenzi around, hopefully they will both be back next week. Great to hear from the Ash that Lauren will actually play a role in the big battle coming up. There should be way more Lauren anyways, just saying. The past episodes her screentime was very little and now a completely Laurenless episode, what's next? :')

As much as i love Lauren and Doccubus i wasn't too upset she didn't appear this episode. I don't think i could handle any more Doccubus angst. Also pleased that Lauren has a part to play in the up coming battle. Also i kind of like this Ryan guy! He had great chemistry with Bo. Which i'm glad has proved that i dont have rose tinted Doccbus glasses and only want Bo to be with Lauren. After all everyone knows that it would never work out long term as much as i would like it to! Maybe the writers can work something into the show that turns Lauren fae!? Maybe for an episode or two? :) Would like to see more Lauren and Nadia, how has she explained the whole coma/fae thing? Also poor Ciara, i liked her and Dyson together!

I liked this episode. Its great that Bo can move on for a while but I am still hoping for Bo and Dyson to get back together. I missed Kenzi!! I am glad to get a break from Loren. Never really liked her with Bo and glad that she is with someone else now. She hurt Bo by lying to her.

With the last two episodes I feel we're getting somewhere with the storylines.

Last night's episode was much better than the episode of Once Upon a Time.

So, Dyson must've given all his love to Bo and loved nobody but her from that moment on - that’s the logical conclusion, if he really gave her ALL her love - and now loves nobody; not even Kenzi or Hale. Because love (you know, that thing that's so clearly defined and has such sharp boundaries between romantic love and love for friends and so on) is totally a finite commodity you can give to somebody just like that and also run out of; like a bottle of beer. Right, makes perfect sense. Except that it doesn't. This is some of the most illogical nonsense I've ever come across. I'm not impressed at all. Did whoever came up with that even think about what they were saying? Only for a second? It sure doesn't look like it.

Speaking of not being impressed. I also wasn't impressed by the rest of 2.14. The episode had a few funny moments, but that was it. Personally, I even found 2.09 more entertaining than this, despite it having been a disaster in terms of continuity.

At least Bo got some again. Our sexless succubus must've been starving already. ;-) And I liked how Ciara didn't take shit from Dyson.

It's nice to see the last episode dusted off after Trick, Dyson and Hale seemed in deadly peril with no seeming after effects all round. if anyone get's stabbed, poisoned and gassed I'm beginning to think they'd still be business as usual next episode.

I'm not sure if we've got a Succubus or a serial monogamist but without direspect to Dyson, I now have three people I'd rather see Bo make out with than a return of 'one love' Dyson.   (Clues L.L. & R)  Now the whole dreary Ciara thing has been benched with her finding out that Dyson let his friend/her husband die rather than give up his wolf and gave everything up for Bo after brief acquaintance, I'm sure there's no chance of them getting restarted and maybe some room for revenge.

The show was fun, although the genie business was a bit of a fog and the solutions were  ... oh, all right then if you say so, I'll suspend disbelief.   A lamp, that was a music box, that got broken, then was sang backwards to by a Siren la-di-dah.

Some good bits about the seasons arc with Lochlan revealing Lauren's importance ... being a human doctor that must be a poisoned chalice but I'm hoping we see more of Lauren than suffering a mopefest over Bo and Nadia and that she's not just the bait for Bo to go Super Succubus.  Also Lochlan working with a Dark Fae, it would seem logical that the Dark Fae help defend the Fae but Ryan seemed to be acting independently and I'm betting the bracelet has more purpose than reminding us of AS's childhood hero Wonder Woman.

Looking forward to next week, bring Lauren and Kenzi back without appendages ... oh partners, I like the six, the add on's are getting irritating but at least Ryan was amusing which makes a change.

I miss Kenzi!  She is an important part of the show and left a big gaping hole in the story line.  As for Dyson - please somebody let that man make love to someone - he is definitely the sexiest on the show.  Not so exciting since he has been wearing a chastity belt on his heart.  The genie in the music box was a bit too predictable for me although well acted by Holly.

I really liked this episode! I thought it was very well done, altough i would have liked to seen kenzi in it.

Loving the fact that Ciara and Dyson aren't together anymore! I didn't think they were a good match. However, i do feel sorry for her. It shouldn't have taken this long for Dyson to realize that he can't love anyone else but Bo. He should have told Ciara what happened from the start/very beginning. It wasn't fair to her.

I’m not really in a Team Lauren/Dyson, I’m totally Team Lost Girl.

So, it is clear that I’m a bit disappointing about how the things are actually written.

How could is just possible that neither Kenzi (the most funny character on the show) neither Lauren (yes, I said I’m not Team Lauren but I’m not blind neither and the doctor is the most loved character of the show) are into this episode???

The storyline is not so bad in a way and I liked the new guy, also because it was about time that Bo had an active sex life! But, c’mon guys, how could you just send away Kenzi and Lauren at the same time? I understand that you needed to make Bo alone, because all the Garuda and Ryan things she was in, but it was kind of a suicide decision in my opinion.

And I have to add another point: I’m not Team Dyson either, but I really think that all this bullshit about “wolves mate for life” is becoming booooooring…and not to mention all the dialogue between Ciara and Dyson, poor girl, the storyline is so poorly written that I don’t know what else to say. I prefer the Lauren storyline, when the writers are able to actually write it (not so many times in these past episodes, I hope something will change soon) and I really thing that is not so fair trying to show us Dyson as the only character that ever cared about Bo and sacrificed all his things (kind of ridiculous, I have to agree with Ciara here), while Lauren is just a selfish human doctor…I will not buy it and If I can’t, imagine if the bigger part  of the viewers can (they are Doccubus fan, sorry for you).

Let’s try to change direction, this season is poorly written until now!

Team Lost Girl!!!!!

But it was as good as an episode as it could be without two of the main characters. I really enjoyed Bo in this episode. And I actually liked her having a new love interest as long as he's used as nothing more than sex! The last we need is another part of this love triangle!

Liked the clue that Lauren is a part of the bigger picture in terms of the battle. Interesting.

It was well written... it had just enough where it wasn't too choppy as some other episodes have been.

The lack of Lauren in Ep 214 brought Lauren's screentime average for each episode of season two down to 5 1/2 minutes. Considering how well loved she is and the fact that she's a series regular, writers PLEASE fix this in season three. I need a regular dose of Bo, Lauren, Kenzi and a side of the Morrigan, and this episode was lacking in all but one category.

Also, not that I really cared, but I thought Trick, Dyson etc. were in dire peril at the end of Ep 13. I thought we'd had this continuity discussion before.  Maybe I'm wrong, so I'll say it again. Sci fi fans pay attention to detail and have a LONG memory.

Bo totally made this episode for me, especially seeing her give Sadie a hickey to "mark" her territory.

Yeah. An episode where the most popular characters of the show are nowhere to be seen is hardly a smart idea. I was bored throughout the hour and you could tell there was something missing.

Ryan and Bo's forced chemistry didn't help. In fact, when the writers try way too hard to shove storylines down our throat, they fail. Hence Dyson's "wolves mate for life" nonsense, Nadia, Lauren and Kenzi conveniently going away and now this.

The 22 episode order really hurt the show, in my opinion. Things are all over the place this season. Hopefully, the final episodes will restore my faith in the show.

Welcome back Lost Girl !  It was a long wait for your return.  Reading some of the comments about the first show.  It was a bit odd that the finale didn't really pick up from there, even the opening scene that Bo didn't even recall that Kenzi was leaving with Nate...and the boys were past out like they were dead...that could've been tied up better.

Bo is the main character, and everyone else is her support.  I think she needs more kick ass scences.  She's not weak, she stronger than she realizes.  Without Doc Lauren and Kenzi, Bo is empty.  Regardless of Nadia coming back with Lauren and Kenzi having time away with Nate, the writers know the friendships they have are important to the story.

Looks like some the the actors are off doing other things in their lives, that they needed this time off set.  If the writers want to keep them they need to give them more screen. Too cmany commercials, one hour is not enough !

The episode was pridictable, but interesting that that they wanted us to know that Lauren and Kenzi are coming back...like a "please watch the show", how about promoting it more, lots of Pain ccommercials, Rizzoli commercials, Misfits...barely saw anything about LOST GIRL after the finale.  Don't get that.

Great acting Anna.  I hope the show improves, continuity and casting are everything.

See you next week...!

All you people are too serious about Lost Girl. Yeah, i get that you may not agree with everything the writer's do/write but come on! It's a tv show! You really think what you say makes a difference in what's going to happen. I might be a team Dyson fan but really i don't care who she ends up with(that's if she ever chooses someone) or whether the facts on the show are right. Once again it's a tv show! They don't have to get their facts straight. It's just entertainment. I've read these comments and some people seem mad at what happens in the show and some complain way too much. Also, so what if lauren's not in one of the episodes or gets very little screen time, she still does a great job. All the cast does a fantastic job!

I liked Ryan.  And Bo's no stranger to finding dorks adorable (cue Dr. Lauren) so, despite his ridiculous "chicks secretly want to be taken care of" line, I thought his charactater was well written and pretty darn funny.  And he and Anna Silk nearly (but not quite) carried an entire episode without Zoie Palmer and Ksenia Solo. (Sorry Kris but your storyline was a total snoozer and completely unsurprising.) I'd say that's pretty remarkable for our new couple's first time out!

What is frustrating is the mid-season break teaser was "someone will be lost", the episode was amazing in the reveal of the Garuda, there is the dramatic ending to Trick's "vision" and then this episode: nothing.  Everyone looks fine the next day.  Bo without coffee -hilarious!! All I can guess is maybe Lauren and Nadia got lost on their road trip :)  Whatev - it was a little odd.

For this epi: It was different to see Bo without any of her crew - not bad, just a different vibe and interaction to move the story along.  And to borrow a line from the great Dorothy Snarker: "an episode without Kenzi is like a year without Christmas"...should never happen... :)

I do miss Lauren but who knows, maybe the writers will give her a strong finish.  I'm sure there is a ton of crazy fun and drama to come for all and can't wait to see what happens.

Welcome back Lost Girl.  ^_^

2.14 was a 'fae only' episode, none of the human companions were around to rein in Bo, and what happens the moment Kenzi turns her back? Bo ends up in bed with a Dark fae!

Ryan was very entertaining & it was good to see there are shades of grey amongst the Dark.  And what's interesting is that's two Ashes who have used Dark fae to further their agendas. I got to say that Lochlan has been a surprise.  I went from disliking him to being very intrigued by his motives, though why do I feel that Lauren's part in the battle to come is to die/be threatened so that Bo can go 'super-succubus'?  I hope not as Lauren is my favourite character.

I was expecting Lauren to be missing from this episode, but Kenzi's absence was considerable, almost jarring. Definately missed her Kenzisms.

And poor Ciara & Dyson, I knew this was coming, but it was still sad to see.

Overall I enjoyed this episode a lot, but I'm hoping that Kenzi & Lauren will be back next episode, there was definately something missing.

And to those who are commenting about the 'wolves mate for life' thang; you are willing to suspend your disbelief in succubi, sirens, wolf shifters, & mesmers so why not 'wolves mating for life' in the fae world of Lost Girl?

^_^

I love this show - I saw the whole season 1 and the new season eps in one day - is so freaking addictive. I have read the comments and I see that the doctor character is a loved one, however I don't think she is in the right level for Bo - she is not enough kick ass and a little blah...on the other hand...Dyson...mmm Yummy!! I would love to see a reunion there - I think their chemistry is a lot hotter than the doctor's - she is just not hot enough for Bo, she is too mundane and has not mystery.

Please bring Kenzi back - she rocks! my favorite character.

This episode was a hell of a lot of fun. Kenzi abandons Bo for one episode and she lands in the clutches of the dark fae Tony Stark guy and gets jiggy wit it on the dark side. Nice curveball! Not that he was dark because I kinda saw that coming, but that Bo was down with it anyway. Dyson's his killer brooding self but now with a damned good reason. Lauren Holly's chewing up the scenery in a good way. Sometimes change is good. The ep rules.
