Lost Girl: Season 2, Episode 11 – ‘Can't See the Fae-Rest’

Monday, December 05, 2011 1:35 PM

In "Can't See the Fae-Rest", Bo and the gang face their toughest adversaries yet - a bunch of rich young socialites with more money than they know what to do with. Oh, and a Snake Fae.

This week's episode opens with Dyson and Hale being called in to investigate the latest in a series of mysterious deaths at parties held by the young and rich. Partygoers are being crushed to death, and, figuring a Fae is behind it, Dyson and Hale decide that they need someone to go undercover to figure out what's going on.  It's a tough job - what with the expensive booze, food, and all -  but luckily they know the perfect pair to do it - Bo and Kenzi. The only drawback (for Bo at least) is that Ciara is brought in to show them how to fit in with the crowd, and things are still awkward between them to say the least.

Armed with a new dress for Bo and a new wig for Kenzi (that girl really likes her wigs), the pair infiltrates a party, but (wouldn't you know it?) another person ends up being killed. Kenzi is initially a suspect (to the human cops at least), but Dyson and Hale single out a woman named Leeta as the most likely culprit. Not only did she attend every party that resulted in a death, but she's also suspected of being a Snake Fae.  Why? Because she has a successful business making clothing and accessories out of snake skin, obviously.

Bo and Dyson then go undercover as an engaged couple to meet Leeta. When confronted with Dyson and Bo's suspicions, Leeta is revealed to be a Snake Fae, but spits poison in Dyson's face, rather than trying to crush him.  So while Dyson and Bo were successful in finding a Snake Fae, they were unsuccessful in finding the right one...yet (as you probably would have guessed they didn't just give up at this point).

Meanwhile, it was a tough week for Lauren fans, with things going from bad to worse for the doctor. At this point she's at her breaking point over Nadia, and when she asks the Ash for help with her and he denies it she pretty much loses it, vowing to flee the Ash's service and to take Nadia with her.

How will the Ash respond to Lauren's threats (here's a hint: it's drastic), and who or what is behind the mysterious crushing deaths at the parties? You can find out now by watching the episode here...it's lot more exciting than just reading about it.

Speaking of exciting, we have an awesome new contest coming up for you guys. Our job will be to provide you with an MP3 of the Lost Girl theme song (it's an extended version with lyrics that have never been heard before...so get excited) and official clips from the show. Your job will be to take what we provide and make a music video out of it. Just being able to listen to the MP3 is almost prize enough, but we also have something extra special for the winner of the contest - a visit to the Lost Girl set in Toronto. Make sure to check back tomorrow for more details and for the full contest rules and regs.

I'm really warming up to Ciara and I quite like the fact that she and Bo are getting closer - and I find it amusing that Bo is attracted to her. However, I hope they don't use that relationship as a pretext to shove Bo and Dyson down our throats - like they did for most of the episode. Bo and Dyson work better as friends and/or friends with benefits.  I wish he'd appreciate Ciara a bit more.

I also wish they'd give Dyson a storyline of his own. He was in pretty much every scene this episode and yet it was Lauren that stole the show in the 2 minutes she was there. Zoie Palmer is amazing and the best thing this show ever did was to promote her. Now if only they'd give her propper screentime...

Bo and Lauren deserve a chance. Anna Silk and Zoie Palmer have an amazing chemistry and should not be wasted or taken for granted.  I hope the writers realize how much the audience values their performances and their relationship onscreen.

Overall, I think this episode was decent. We got to know Ciara a bit better and I'm starting to like her. I also have to say I actually kinda liked seeing Lauren get locked away; it furthered her storyline and has a lot of potential for future developments. Made me even more curious about the next episodes. Lachlan... god, I love hating him. ^^ The writers totally hit the jackpot with Lauren and Lachlan. For me they're easily the show's most interesting characters.

I do take issue with the following though... I have the impression - and I’m certain I’m not the only one having it - that Bo more often than not seems to simply forget Lauren even exists every time an episode gets Bo/Dyson/(Ciara)-heavy in one way or another. Don’t be lazy and count on us viewers to just assume Bo still remembers her!

Some nice bits.  Liked Bo/Kenzi shopping, liked Ciara a little better.  Thought the Bo/Dyson/Ciara became a little more settled and Bo giivng Ciara advice on how to deal with Dyson was nice.  Lauren is at the end of her tether, I think getting the cursing nail made it worse. She just broke into aggression and pleading.  Please don't ignore those emotions and make it better next week.  Although I suppose if Bo does some Nadia magic and gets her back then Lauren's smiley pictures for the next episode make sense.  Really feel Bo/Lauren have become the emotional heart of this programme and that's from a hetro viewer and I only make that point to say this relationship has possibly a more universal aspect than you first thought.   I also like Kenzi/Hale whether they become romantic or not, they're sweet.

It was very amusing how Bo finds Ciara attractive adding onto the fact that Bo and Dyson are both still very awkward turtles around each other but only in the presence of other people (which is also kind of odd..), there was just a whole bunch of awkward there. BUT the reason I liked it so much is because it was showing again how big of a heart Bo has, warming up to Ciara and trying to help her out with Dyson again pushing away any feelings she might of had on the matter to help another person.

Poor Lauren, that girl really needs a hug - though not from the tree lady. Zoie Palmer stole the show again even with her two minutes of screen time, I keep rationalizing why Lauren ran away when when she returned all that happened to her was house arrest (though it implies something much bigger in my mind in terms of Lauren backstory) - but it's Zoie's performance that really makes us believe how frightened she is and how tenuous her place is among the Fae, she looked desperate and terrified at the same time.

Dyson... I like him when he's helping Bo doing case related things, I think it's awful that they're implying he's leading Ciara on. It really comes across to me that he can't love Ciara because he loved Bo and his passion for her was taken (which may need some clarification) and Bo is therefore the only person he'll ever love. Yes wolves mate for life, but so do penguins and as evidenced on Dirty Jobs even penguins can break up and and end up loving other penguins. I really hope this will get explained better later on, right now it just paints a terrible picture in my mind and I would really like to like Dyson ALL of the time. I also liked that he had a few quips this episode!

Lachlan is fantastically menacing, I'm starting to love his character in a "he's the perfect villain" type of way. Like the Evil Queen on Once Upon A Time. I'm very excited to see how this dynamic will play out especially if Bo finds out that Lauren went a bit mental (at Lachlan) and that Lachlan now has her in Fae-jail.

Kenzi was awesome as always, still hoping for a Trick-backstory episode! It would also be neat to see more of Hale's siren skills.

I really enjoyed watching this episode. It was nice to see Bo and Dyson getting along. I especially liked the part where he told her she looked pretty. I think they could end up together before the season ends. When Ciara asked him if he loved her he didn't answer the question which i think is a pretty good sign.

I am too starting to warm up to Ciara, well sorta. I still don't like the fact that she is interferring with the Bo/Dyson relationship, but i do like the fact that her and Bo are freinds.

This might sound strange but i think the Ash has a little bit of a soft spot for Bo, he's nice to her but mean to every one else. Last weeks episode he was kinda mean/rude to Dyson and in yesterdays episode he was mean to Lauren. But when he was talking to Bo he was nice to her. I think he either has a soft spot for her or he's just putting on an act.

Lauren just annoyed me in this episode. On the one hand I was kind of glad that she finally stood  up for herself. Then on the other I thought that it wasn't like her to through this sort of a temper tantrum what is she 2 YEARS OLD? I know that she is desperate and under a lot of strain, She has held on for this long.  So Pull up your big girl pants get yourself together go back to your lab and FREAK out there. NOT in front of the Ash when he can pull the plug on your entire project! Jeez.

I really like the fact that Bo was trying to be the bigger person in this episode by getting to know Kiara. I didn't like that Dyson wasn't up front with Kiara when she was telling him now she felt. When he was telling her about how he would try to do his best  to make her happy I wanted to growl, I thought you are being a jerk she is giving you everything and you can't even give her the truth?

If the episode will be just about Bo and Dyson ,maybe the writers can be at least a interesting plot for they.

And like I said in everyone blog about episodes Lost girl , the really good actress Zoie and Anna have a lot potential and the writers just don't explored this .And I will finaly with my epic phrase : Please use more Zoie .They have a lot plot and history as Lauren than any others characters ... so use Zoie.

I'm really liking this Bo.  I say "this Bo" because it's almost like there's two different Bo's.  The annoying one in the "body swap" episode and this one.  Please keep this one.

I like how Bo opens herself up to Ciara and selflessly helps her with Dyson in much the same way she handled the Nadia situation with Lauren.

Speaking of Lauren... They could have cut out the entire 42 min. of the show, leaving only the 2 minutes of screen time with Lauren, and it still would have been a great show.  Good developments with the doc.  It's great to see her at her breaking point and fighting back.  She's the reason I'll tune in next week.  Can't wait to see what happens next.

Lachlan is an interesting character because there's shades of grey with that guy.  He's a total douche to Lauren and humans in general but interesting nonetheless.  I'm thinking he's not the actual Ashe but a shapeshifter of some sort.  Maybe that's actually who we see kill Trick... not Bo but Lachlan.

Ok.  Gotta go get a life.  See you next week.

thought the storyline was awesome - the whole "tree-fae" thing was interesting and the writing was very visual..touched by the way it was handled in the end - a unique twist I didn't see coming at all.  nice work with building the fae world and not using "typical" creatures.

thought all the characters were in good form as the story builds around them - looking forward to next week

Comparing penguins to wolves...I've never read anything that even remotely supports that statement (giving a small allowance I could be wrong). Wolves have always been said to chose one love for its life time. They're incredibly attached to their pack which is similar to human need to have familial ties. Dyson SHOULD tell Ciara what he lost so that she may decide if being with him is worth it from an informed point of view. And in my own personal opinion, I feel the whole Lauren/Bo relationship is being pushed to hard because up until now there hasn't been a huge amount of same sex relationships in TV. As a culture we're starting to accept that its okay to love someone of the same gender but I don't think in this case it should be a focal point for the show. Bo WANTED to be with Dyson. She made that choice because while he withheld information from her regarding her mother, he didn't betray her like Lauren did. He was also single when he fell in love with her. Something the good doctor was not. What happens when Nadia wakes up? Neither Lauren or Dyson are being over honest to themselves, let alone Bo, at the moment but of the two of them Lauren is closer to that in my opinion. The shows writers are being incredibly mean to Bo's character with regards to first robbing her of Dyson's love and then giving her another woman to contend with. Lauren basically sold herself into slavery to save Nadia. That's some pretty strong emotion and will not be easily dismissed if the writers are capable of remembering the human condition surrounding emotional ties.

Eh, this episode wasn't the worst but it wasn't the best either. The show definitely has me on a roller coaster I never know what is going to happen next. Though can Lauren get more screen time? Sometimes I forget she is a main character.

I would have to agree with the majority of posts...give the Bo/Lauren relationship a chance, give Zoie more screen time, explore the Kenize/Hale friendship, however let's not have all the main charaters dating each other like ALL the other TV drama's out there.

I am starting to get nervous about the Lauren story line here though...I really want to continue to like "Lost Girl' but giving the good doctor only two minutes of screen time isn't helping that.

It won't be one of my favourite episodes but it was okay. The story with the tree lady was interesting.

I liked to see that Bo tried to become friends with Ciara. I start to like her character (and her gorgeous accent). But I also feel a bit sorry for Ciara because Dyson doesn't tell her what's really going on with him.

I loved Lauren's two minutes (the best of the entire episode). It wasn't very smart of her but I understand why she freaked out in front of Lachlan (he is a great villain by the way). It was stupid but also kinda brave. The anger and desperation was very well played! Lauren is my favourite character and I can't wait to see the next episode.

OK this "wolves mate for life" has gotten to be one of those incorrect theory's repeated on television and then people seem to take as fact. Wolves absolutely do not mate for life, its a romantic notion but not true. Wolves are monogamous but if their mate dies, leaves the pact, or it unwilling to mate they will move on to another. If a mated pair manage to stay in the same pack and avoid injury and death then yes two wolves will stay together for life but if they dont wolves move on as should the people who think this statement is true. As a zoology major when ever someone regurgitates this false fact it really irritates me its like saying you believe vampires will sparkle in the sunlight because you saw it in a movie.

I quite enjoy the episode for a few reasons. One, Bo continuing to be mature was wonderful. Two, Kenzi and her long rap sheet and fake names provided the comic relief. And most of all, Lauren's breakdown, which I have to add was brilliantly played by Zoie Palmer who is impressing me with her range.

I also want to add my two cents regarding Bo/Lauren. I'm straight and I stared out enjoying Bo/Dyson but by the time episode 1.08 rolled by, I was firmly on Team Lauren.  This is the first time I have ever been so invested in a same-sex couple. I find Lauren to be a nuanced, intriguing and complex character. In a show filled with monsters and mythical creature, she is its human heart. Her relationship with Bo resonates stronger with me because it's organic, genuine, honest  and romantic. Their care, concern and yes, I dare say love for each other and their struggle to let each other go but unable to made me an emotional mess. Adding to that is the amazing chemistry between Anna Silk and Zoie Palmer. I'm constantly amazed at how well they act together.

The odds are stacked against them. A human and a fae is taboo in the fae world and we have come to learn can have deadly consequences. Lauren's love, guilt and obligation to Nadia has left her torn between the woman she was willing to give up everything for and the woman she has fallen in love with unexpectedly.  I don't believe Lauren would walk away from Nadia when she wakes up but at the same time, I don't see Lauren or Bo easily discarding what they have. The sweet, sweet angst. Then there's Lauren servitude to the Ash who just love torturing both the ladies. All this just makes me root harder for them. After watching Bo/Lauren's story unfold this season, Bo/Dyson feel superficial by comparison.

So, please continue this love story between Bo and Lauren. It is the best part of this season along with Lauren's character development.

Okay so we got some development and continuity so that alone I am happy. Very happy Bo and Dyson are able to work together again and Bo is getting along with Kiara. She has definitely matured lately.

Lauren scenes with the Ash were heart breaking. It is obvious she has reached her breaking point and good for her for getting a back bone

Kenzi/Hale needs to happen. That is all

lUh how is Bo/Lauren being pushed too hard? I think their relationship is getting the same amount of development as Bo/Dyson did in season 1. There is a triangle in this show and since the Lauren/Bo part of that triangle did not get equal representation last season they are getting it this season.... barely. As far as I have seen Bo WANTED to be with Lauren. Just accept that this show has a love triangle and both sides have to be shown.

It wasn't in my favorite episodes list but it was good!

The fact that we are getting to know more about Ciara only tells me she'll be out of Bo and Dyson's way soon... Even if she stays in the story...

It's very predictable that Dyson and Bo are going to end up together, and that's what it makes it so boring.

I wish the show give Lauren a Bo a chance, even though I know it will hardly happen... I'll still be watching the show most likely... I love Bo... SO...!

Oh Zoie! Dr Hotpants is coming unglued. Send out chi vibes to get your girlfriend to come rescue you. Wake up your other girlfriend by pounding the curse nail into the Ash-holes dead head. Then the three of you go get lit at the Dal and take bets on when Kenzie and Hale are going to throw down.

This show is the most entertaining thing on TV at the moment.

I'm interested in seeing more Lauren/Bo and way more Kenzie. Those three are a lot of fun to watch!

Well , Now I understand why the writers always write little scenes for Zoie Palmer ."Cause she dont needs more time to show us her talent .And with only an minute she make the show be all about her . If she appear only one minute - as a do not want - they will makes more sense and add more for the series than other character that have more than 30 minutes to make us be interest on them history

THANK YOU, Kathy! I'm so sick of hearing "wolves mate for life", because it's just not true. And all it would've taken for the writer who came up with that to avoid perpetuating that myth would've been a tiny little bit of research - no need for professional literature even, going through the Wikipedia-article on wolves and/or a little bit of googling would've sufficed. Jesus...

It was a good episode, as there seemed to be background planted to continuing storylines. The tree, Lauren and the "Nadia nail" seem to tie in with finding the wood...now add the hold the "fake" Ash,(wicked SOB) has on Lauren. She's too valuable a scientist for any Fae to mistreat. Pixies..?

Throw in the "give in" attitude the Ash has when Bo is involved and why does he give her what she wants..uhmm...where is dear Papa anyway? Mamma has visited already.

The human emotions Bo has for "Humans" should never break even Special friendship Bo/Lauren have, post Nadia's return...if anything after waking up from a 5 year curse, Lauren can TRY to explain all about the Fae..and Nadia will have be the one to make a decision to stay with Lauren, and the crazy life Lauren's been living since then.

But I hope it's not the end of the Doc and Bo's special friendship and I think the entire gang is important to Bo, and she is the main character after all and holds some mystical power that all of them together can only help

Bo achieve. United the Fae !

Dear Lost Girl producers, consulters and writers,

You still don't get what the fans are asking for, do you?  Let me write here three simple words which may help you to understand:

Coherence.

Consistency.

Continuity.

Do you know why we are asking for those three words? Because if we choose a common feature among fans it will surely be loyalty. It doesn't matter where you live, which language you speak, how old you are, if you are a gal or a guy, which sexual orientation you have. No, none of those have any significance. What really matter is our loyalty.

And to make things very clear, we are loyal to the characters by which we fell in love. For them we spent hours talking about what should be the next events; which characteristics we identify the most; what secrets we are dying to know. With them, we cry, we laugh, we love, we hate. We create fan pages, fan forums; we share our opinions all over the world. For them, we expose ourselves.

But to be as loyal as that, we have to have confidence that there will be CONTINUITY in the development of the storylines; that there will be CONSISTENCY in the characters feelings; and, above all, that there will be COHERENCE between the characters' profile and their behaviors.

You can write whatever awkward situations you want about Bo/Lauren, Bo/Dyson, Dyson/Ciara, Bo/Ciara, Nadia/Lauren, Nadia/Dyson (why not?!). I'm sure all the Teams will handle it as long as those three magic words are there.

However, when you write one of them acting totally out of character; acting like a jerk when everyone knows that she/he's not; you guys, are being completely disloyal to us. That is exactly what you have done to Lauren (and to us) in the last ten minutes of “Masks”. You, out of nothing, have transformed her in a weak, selfish, disgusting person who never, ever, before appears to be. Cause she is not. And to get things worst, that wasn’t the first time you did it to her. And you did it to Bo, too (especially in the first five episodes with her teenager cheesy behavior with Dyson). You did it to Dyson, as well (again, in the first five episodes when he was an absolutely rude, annoying, selfish person).

Lauren has a thousand of loyal fans all over the world who deserve respect. Much of our loyalty is due to the amazing work of the talented actress Zoie Palmer who has already proved to have a huge charisma with the fans, and who also deserve respect for. What you have done is almost unforgivable.

“What are your reactions to last night's episode?”. I felt betrayed.

Please, remember those three magic words, and try to really take care of the fanbase.

Thanks.
