Well look who has half a heart after all... In this week's episode, Kim's potential pregnancy actually brought out a more human -- dare I say likeable? -- side to this supervillain. Babies and marriages were the order of the day in "The Long Road to Napa," which is why I want to talk about bigamy, yet another interesting topic spawned from a court storyline.
This week, Jane represented two women who were not aware that they were married to the same man -- a man who had yet another wife in the works. And just as the scorned women sued for fraud, opposing council tried to play this man's actions off as a poor soul in true love. Endearing? Not for me.
The value of monogamy has been debated since the days of Adam and Eve, and it's certainly fair to ask if our primitive nature is geared more towards multiple partners as opposed to a single mate. But why is it that history has had men reaping most of the benefits in polyamorous arrangements?
Should bigamy be illegal, as it is in Canada, or are we really making a big deal out of nothing?
Full disclosure: I have been in a monogamous relationship for seven years, so I'm clearly partial to the less scandalized lifestyle. But this debate is particularly interesting because it forces us to consider how bigamy is different than flat-out cheating. To my mind, the only difference is whether or not the doors are closed.
Just a little sex for thought this week... Until next time, ta ta divas.
P.S. - I am so thrilled Jane is back with Tony. *sigh*
