Californication S1E12 "The Last Waltz" RECAP

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 4:53 PM

You can't always get what you want, unless you're Hank Moody of course.

What a loaded episode this finale was with Mia's drunken outburst, Becca getting the "big it," and Hank stealing away the woman of his dreams from the clutches of evil Bill.

Grow the fuck up or suck it up – that's what I feel the writer's are telling us in this episode. That sometimes we let the daily mundane happenings we call "living" get in the way of any true and real happiness in our life. And that we can't help but be forced to mature and either accept life's failures for what they are or appreciate what we have and move forward.

Hank's nightmares of losing Karen to Bill also tell us that lost loves will haunt you. But we can't always have what we want, n'est pas? This is perhaps why I was a bit irritated to see Karen spin off with Hank in the end. In reality, life's not so merciful, lost loves don't always come back. Perhaps, however, when there's a child involved like with Hank and Karen then reconciliations and a return to Eden is possible. Okay, that's my profound (yet admittedly not so original) statement for the day.

Moving on, I have to say I love the character Marcy. Her care-free, completely vulgar and blunt nature is very appealing. How interesting work, life, friendships would be if we said exactly what our brains were thinking to each other all the time!

But that could get us into trouble, so we most often hold our tongues. And that is why my friends we have shows like Californication to escape.
