Way back before the internet
or running water, it used to be that cartoons were seen as child's play.
Then along came The Simpsons, and soon most animated tv shows and
movies were slick and sophisticated, absolute must-sees for
anyone claiming to be a cultured urbanite. Similarly, any A-list
celebrity worth naming on TMZ has voiced an alien, a zoo animal or a
goofily rendered version of himself. To celebrate, Showcase is showing a
marathon of animated flicks, including the big screen romp of Homer and
his ilk, as well as Ice Age 2 and Robots this Sunday, April 4. To celebrate that, here are five celebs whose cartoon
voiceovers were totally surprising... sort of.
Val Kilmer as Moses, The Prince of Egypt
Seriously,
could he have more of a God complex?
Sonic Youth, The Simpsons
Considering
that noise rock's coolest godparents barely speak during their own
concerts, snagging Kim and Thurston's voices for the 1996 episoder
"Homerpalooza" was truly a memorable moment in animated celebrity.
Holly
Hunter, The Incredibles
The star of Saving Grace won our hearts as Edwina, the big-hearted policewoman
with a ticking biological clock in Raising Arizona. She then went on to
win an Oscar as Ada, the speechless, sensual Scotswoman in The Piano. As
Elastigirl in The Incredibles, she reminded us that moms really are
superheroes. Holly Hunter kinda rules.
Bill Murray, Garfield
Oh,
Bill. Why?
Andre 3000, Charlotte's Web
He's rangy, ebony and wry, but it was still a shock to hear the
Atlanta rapper as Elwyn the Crow in the animated version of a novel
beloved by fourth grade girls. Then again, Outkast's Dre is famous for charming
the ladies. In fact, I think he's even dreamier now.
