If saccharine holiday fare has you gagging, we've got just the ticket. This Sunday, December 27 at 6pm & 10pm ET/PT, Showcase has an encore presentation of Alice, a trippy new miniseries based on
Lewis Carroll's trippy old books. In honour of Alice 2.0, a fiercely
independent babe who traverses a technicolor dreamland (and Kathy Bates'
terrifying Red Queen) to rescue her lover, here
are our top 5 lady ass-kickers.
5. Lara Croft
She's hot, she takes no prisoners, she's based on a video game. Any questions?
4. Wonder Woman
Her
outfit and invisible plane are obviously awesome, but don't overlook
the Amazon's Lasso of Truth. If only we could sling one around
politicians and bank execs, the world would be a happier, more peaceful
place.
3. Yu Shu-Lien and Jen Yu
Two fierce female warriors made
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon a must-see martial arts film, even for the
action-averse. As Shu-Lien, Michelle Yeoh tore a ligament rehearsing
for the awesome fight scene in which the duo give their all, performing a dangerous, otherwordly ballet. Rebelling against the constrictions
of her aristocratic life, Ziyi Zhang as Jen prefers death over the loss
of her freedom. Both women stand up to a male-dominated world, and
their swordplay just looks crazy cool.
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
These days, vampires are apparently
a reason to lop ten years off your maturity level and get more than a
little moist between the legs. How weak. Buffy knew how to be merciless
with the forces of darkness, and still get some nookie, too.
1. The Bride, codename "Black Mamba"
Haven't you always wanted
to be an assassin? Okay, maybe killing people ain't cool, but it's an
infinitely superior job title than whatever you've got on your business
card. Kill Bill saw Uma come back from the dead to dismember and
pillage a phalanx of bad guys, before saving her kidnapped baby by
murdering her former lover. All in a day's work.
