Canadian TV viewers lamenting the conclusion of last Sunday's Grey Cup needn't look any further than Showcase for their next major television event, and it's coming up so soon that your football-shaped salamis and shrimp rings will still be reasonably edible.
This Sunday, December 6 and Monday, December 7 at 8pm ET/PT, Showcase goes through the looking glass with the premiere of the ambitious miniseries Alice. The two-night, four-hour event is a modern day spin on the classic stories by Lewis Carroll stars Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates (Misery) as the Queen of Hearts and Canadian Caterina Scorsone (Crash television series) as Alice.
The series also stars Tim Curry as Dodo and Harry Dean Stanton as Caterpillar, along with Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as the King of Hearts, Philip Winchester (Crusoe) as Jack of Hearts, Matt Frewer (Watchmen) as the White Knight, Andrew Lee Potts (Primeval) as Hatter, Alessandro Juliani (Battlestar Galactica) as 9 of Clubs, Timothy Webber (Taken) as Carpenter, Alex Diakun (Sanctuary) as Ratcatcher, Zak Santiago (Kingdom Hospital) as 10 of Clubs, and Eugene Lipinski (Animorphs) as Doctors Dee and Dum.
Inspired by the classic Lewis Carroll books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, this new Showcase miniseries tells the modern-day story of Alice Hamilton, a fiercely independent twenty-something who watches as her lover Jack Chase is suddenly kidnapped by two thugs and driven into darkness just moments after surprising her with a rare family ring. Here's the trailer:
Desperate to find Jack, Alice puts her trust in a sharply dressed stranger who calls himself White Rabbit and suddenly finds herself on the other side of a looking glass. She is a stranger in an outlandish city of twisted towers and casinos built out of playing cards, all under the rule of a deliciously devilish Queen who is not very happy about Alice's arrival. In her quest to get answers and find Jack, Alice must deal with a host of outrageous characters including the flying scarabs, the thundering Jabberwock, the Pool of Tears and the clinically insane Doctors Dee and Dum.
We'll have more Alice for you later this week!
