Damages S02E13: "Trust Me" (Season Finale)

Monday, April 13, 2009 11:54 AM

As expected, the season finale of Damages left no stone unturned, wrapping up an ambitiously complicated season with a tidy bow and in turn dishing out a few new surprises of its own. It’s the kind of storytelling we’ve come to expect from this legal thriller.

If there’s one remarkable thing about this episode, it’s that it actually manages to reveal another layer to the entire story—i.e., that Patty has been the puppet master all along, playing UNR’s corrupt figureheads (Kendricks, Dave Pell) off of each other and using the FBI and Ellen as her unknowing pawns. Tom, meanwhile, has now pretended to be fired by Patty on two separate occasions. He’s getting quite good at it, isn’t he? Just another indication that in Damages, nothing is ever as it seems.

The question looming large for most of this season has been just how Ellen and Patty were going to make it through their hotel room stand-off in one piece. We’d never seen Patty take any bullets, so nobody could have known whether or not she was indeed shot at—and this week, we learned that it was trader wiz-kid Finn Garrity who caused all that bleeding by stabbing her repeatedly in the gut. Next, there was the matter of how Ellen would deal with Patty’s confession, should she get one—and she did—but that was resolved in a hurry, too. Just as we saw that Ellen had started to relate with Patty on a whole new level a few episodes back, this week we saw that she is also willing to accept her do-anything-to-win instincts, even if they involve her own murder.

The threads left hanging for next season are irresistible: Is Wes going to be Ellen’s… boyfriend? Will Ellen “be back,” as Patty predicts, or is she indeed going to defect to another employer? Why was Frobisher even in this season—unless he’s going to play a significant role in Season 3? Will Patty indeed find a new man?

Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments. And don’t forget—you can get your Damages fix online. Visit the Showcase video centre for streaming episodes.

‘Till next season…

I am in serious pain. I recorded the last episode of Damages and watched it this evening. Imagine my horror when I realized that it was 1.5 hours and I had recorded 1 hour. Anyone else record the whole thing!!!!

Thanks guys, and sorry for the wait. In the meantime, don't read this blog post if you haven't seen the last 30 minutes!

I'd like to add my displeasure to the 2 hour and 20 minute final show as well. How in hell could you not let people know that it was going to be longer? You oughta be horsewhipped. Especially when so many people tape shows that come on late at night. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Damages and I appreciate your programming but let this be a warning for future such occurances.

Faithful watcher / taper of Damages all season, then a 90 minute episode without advance warning either on your website or TV listings. Let's have better communication in the future as this great show deserves better.

This happened with The Shield series finale, I don't believe there was any heads up on the extended run time.
My TiVo captured the whole thing, it downloaded the updated schedule and didn't miss a minute of the awesome season finale. Time to invest in a DVR. I had the first season saved on TiVo and didn't watch it until last December, perfect timing for season two.

Rescue Me is back and hopefully Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns in the summer or its torrent time.

Like the others, my wife and I missed the last part of the show because of the extra lenght....PLEASE get that up on the site...

It's cruel for the site to claim that it's "updated Tuesday" when it's already Wednesday afternoon!

We're extremely sorry for the delay everyone. The episode is finally in the department and being encoded as I type.

It's been an adventure sorting these dubs from week to week and the Easter holiday truly through a wicked wrench in the process.

Again we apologize for the delay and appreciate everyone's patience and support.

It is wednesday night the 15 and still no final episode on the site, when everybody missed the last 30 minutes because Showcase forgot to mention the tiny detail that the finale lasts 90 minutes; its failure after failure; I say: Let's hire Patty to sue! ... when she is out of the hospital.

just got my next weeks TV guide & learned that I wasn't alone in missing the last half hour of the Finale airing. But the TV guide advised going to this website to see the airing that we all missed.
You do refer to it's being re-aired but where & how do we connect????
Not much help here only to learn that I wasn't alone...

Like almost all of the comments, I was a faithful taper of the show and missed the last half hour. I also read through TV Week that the show would be posted here for the week but couldn't find it on your website. PLEASE re-broadcast it or re-post it and give us a considerable heads-up for when you do.

I was away for the finale last year, and lost the last 30 minutes.

I didn't know about this site, and didn't see the last episode when it was availble here.

I was hoping to catch a rerun, (as you did for season 1) but no such luck. Any suggestions?

I have followed Damages through all three seasons, and love the concept.

Is there anyone from Showcase who cann please post a comment here about why the finale of Season 2 was never posted.  I still haven't seen it and as a result did not start watching Season 3 (as I was convinced I'd be able to view both here eventually).  I am not able to view it on the originating network b/c it is in the States and can't be viewed here in Canada.  I'd really appreciate some help from Showcase.  Specifically where's the Season 2 finale and why can't we view Season 3 here?

Thank you!

Hi Jennifer,

We can only stream 4 episodes at a time, each episode expiring after 4 weeks. We don't have rights to keep the episods online permanently. That is why you cannot currently watch them.
