Considering the drop-off in quality between
The Godfather: Part Two and
The Godfather: Part Three, one can imagine the result if they had pushed on to a fifth installment. It’s safe to assume that
Part Five would be an epic piece of shit, but also, considering the 16-year-gap between
Parts Two and
Three, it would not come out until the year 2022.
The Godfather: Part Five, therefore, holds the greatest Potentially Shitty Film Factor (level of shittiness x estimated year of release = PSFF) of any unmade movie in history, with a 9.8.
Lethal Weapon 5 (9.6) is a close second.
You will be happy to hear then, that the fifth instalment of
The Podfather aka
The Ricky Gervais Show, has a PSFF rating of zero. This is because a) it’s awesome, b) it’s a podcast (not a film), and c) it came out on Tuesday. While
Ricky and his
The Office co-writer Stephen Merchant get the glory, the show revolves around the bizarre musings of unassuming Karl Pilkington. Whether expounding on doppelgangers (“How would I know which one I was?”), or the best time of day to eat kangaroo penis (“
I could eat a knob at night”), Karl is so irreverent that he was rumoured to be a
fictional character through the first two seasons of the show.
The rub, however, is that the podcast is not in fact a podcast. While the first record-breaking season was free of charge, they have since started charging for the show, making it an audio book rather than a podcast. While you can listen to the
8-minute preview of season five for free, you’ll have to shell out $4.95 on iTunes or
audible.com for the complete two hour season. Worth it? I say yes, though I’ve also bought advance tickets to
LW5.
Sinceriously,
The Blogfather
