Hola amigos: t’is I, the Big Top, newest attraction at the Sideshow. I’d like to thank the circus powers that be for inviting me to join this pervy little family. I promise to continue delivering the Hump Day goods.
As we get to know each other, you’ll realize I’m a choosy girl, whether the subject at hand is a good burger or getting off. I consider your garden-variety XXX film experience akin to chowing down at McDonald’s: the astronomical sodium content of a Happy Meal tastes good, for a second, and wet lips and writhing bodies tend to get certain juices flowing. But, similar to my post-Quarter Pounder queasiness, I feel an uneasy regret after viewing a typical skin film, despite any pleasures gleaned during showtime.
My standards aren’t that high—I mainly want the chicks in the flicks to be a) genuinely enjoying themselves and b) sober. With these few criteria in mind, I took a trip to
Good For Her, which for the past three years has sponsored the
Feminist Porn Awards, a celebration of non-mainstream sexual fantasy. On this trip, I snagged
Five Hot Stories for Her, the 2008 winner for Movie Of the Year.
This is a fairly high-quality production, all the better to show off multiple hotties in various couple and threesome arrangements—there’s a little something for everyone. Don't fret, “feminist porn” doesn’t mean softly lit girl-on-girl scenes with meaningful gazes and little action. There are more than enough close-ups and, you know, money shots. Howev, there is one important difference with the male factor. In case you haven’t noticed, typical hetero pornos tend not to show the men’s faces, ostensibly to help the viewing male imagine himself as a player. For me, it’s a concrete example of Woman as Object for male manipulation and hence, the McDonald’s Effect. The guys in Five Hot Stories are fully present, and the women are definitely enjoying themselves.
Feminista-wise, the biggest con is that all the hot bods are very typically “hot” (skinny white chicks and buff white dudes) albeit with Suicide Girl-type tattoos and piercings. One storyline did involve some light hetero S&M, but then again she was obviously enjoying herself and that bum paddle with the heart cutout was kind of cute and who doesn’t like a good “mysterious stranger” storyline…sorry, I lost my train of thought there. Final answer: this film was crazy sexy. Watch this
decidedly NSFW trailer for a pleasing tease!
If you need more feminist cred, one last tidbit: director
Erika Lust has a degree in feminist political science and proceeds from her dirty movies go to
NGOs that aim to end sexual exploitation worldwide. I think I would call that a mindfuck.
