Hot off the UK indie music tip, Bloc Party released their newest single to the public today. Mercury, the first single off the bands yet-to-be-named forthcoming album (they’re still in the middle of production), is a dark mix of cacophonic horns and insistent drum beats, evoking feelings of confusion and delusion. Unless that’s just me – it’s possible, I’m often confused and deluded, even when I listen to The Pussycat Dolls.
The video (seen below) sort of reminds me of the following things:
- Weird Science, starring Anthony Michael Hall, who now looks like he participated in some weird science. Sad face!
- Planet of the Apes, starring Charles Heston, who died. Sad face!
I digress! Kele (pronounced “Kelly”) from Bloc Party was on the BBC early this morning (we were all asleep in North American dreamland, I’m sure) to play the new single and chat with the good folks at Radio 1. You can see the interview here. Bloc party will be back round this side of the pond in September to delight us all at the Toronto Virgin Festival. They’ll perform the following dates:
September 6 – Toronto, Virgin Festival
September 9 – Edmonton, Edmonton Events Centre
September 10 – Calgary, MacEwan Hall
September 12 – Quebec City, Envol Macadam
September 13 – Fredricton, Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival
September 14 – Halifax, The Marquee Club
September 15 – Halifax, The Marquee Club
September 17 – Montreal, Metropolis
Love you,
SS
