Attention roller derby fans! Saturday marked the official start of the second annual Toronto Roller Derby League with a fast-paced bout featuring the 2007 Champions, The Gore-Gore Rollergirls, against the Smoke City Betties. Alligator Boy was there to grab snaps of these hot wheels and I had a chance to see my first live game!

These ladies are true contortionists, turning countless corners at high speeds while balancing on four wheels (and sometimes on one leg). With names like Dickless Tracey, Dust Bunny and Lady Frost, you can tell they mean business; in fact the on-site paramedics roll out a medial gurney as a precautionary measure before the game.
As a first-timer, I was highly impressed by the sheer drive of the teams and their ability to joust and jockey for positions utilizing the strength of their team mates to physically advance their teams to gain points. For all intense purposes, I call this technique ‘catapulting’. It’s also easy to see where the bumps and bruises come from; the polished cement floor does little to cushion the fall when direct hits happen. So how’d it end up? The reigning 2007 Champions took home their first win!
Final Score
Win: 120 Gore-Gore Rollergirls
Loss: 47 Smoke City Betties
We’re going to continue with our ongoing coverage at the next game slated for Saturday June 7th at the George Bell Area. In the meantime, check back for profiles on players, game details and check out Alligator Boy's exclusive game shots below:
