What's better than getting stuff for free? Getting
good stuff for free and
our free stuff is great, which makes this very likely the best part of your day. What have we got? Fifteen free double passes for a screening of Garth Jennings' upcoming bit of brilliance,
Son of Rambow, happening May 7th here in Toronto.
Sorry, Nunavut, no free stuff for you which means your day still sucks.
A wee bit of background for those who may not know.
Son of Rambow is the film that took Jennings and his compatriots literally years to prepare and make because everybody was too busy funding other movies because everybody is rather dumb.
They got close to making this a little while back and then someone asked Jennings if he'd like to make a movie out of
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy so he went and did that instead but this little project just wouldn't go away and he went and made it afterwards. And, as previously alluded to, it's pretty much brilliant.
It's the story of a young - and
very sheltered - young boy with a wildly potent imagination who has his young mind blown when a considerably less sheltered young boy exposes him to his first movie experience ever:
First Blood.
The duo then, of course, decide to make their own sequel. It's a smart, funny, charming film that succeeds in everything Michel Gondry wanted to do with
Be Kind Rewind but failed because he forgot to write a script with halfway decent characters.
