It's safe to say that most of us hadn't heard about the
furry (aka plushy) subculture until recently.
As most of us are now only too aware, the Internet is great at shedding light on little known cultural memes and touch points, often to the extent that mass media co-opts them for our entertainment. It only stands to reason that folks dressed up in animal costumes who like to cavort about with one another in various modes of alternately childlike play and/or animalistic, adult action, should finally have their day.
In a
recent episode of Entourage, Turtle gets caught up with a woman who wants him to don a furry outfit and sex her up . A
documentary on the human faces behind the whiskers is also in the works. And of course, as has been the fate of pretty much every other subculture since goth,
furries have been cast as killers on one of the many CSI franchises.
But, as always, it's advertising that has it's finger on the throbbing, synthetic fur covered pulse of our culture. This
French Orangina ad I first saw last week is bizarre. It's CG, but the the characters all have human-like bodies with animal heads. Isn't it strange that the bear wants to make it with the deer? Also, are they in a strip club of some kind, or is that lap dancing octo-babe just really frisky?
Why not have a
look see and decide for yourselves!
