Just a quick check up today on some of the doings of one of Hollywood's current favourite creators,
J.J. Abrams. As many of you will have heard, Abrams has been wowing nerds around the globe with his casting choices for his "reboot" of the
Star Trek film franchise.
Yes,
Simon Pegg is Scotty and
John Cho (best known as Harold from 2004's
Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle) is Mr. Sulu and now,
Winona Ryder has been selected to play the human mother of Spock (to be played by
Zachary Quinto aka "Sylar" from
Heroes). Some of you may recall that Spock, despite his pointy ears and grave disposition, was actually only half Vulcan (his mama was the human part). Admittedly,
Star Trek has never been my favourite science fiction franchise, but now that J.J. is in the saddle and the cast is stacked, I am ready to give his Roddenberry re-hash a shot.
Meanwhile, Abram's other,
far more interesting and as yet, still untitled project (a.k.a.
Cloverfield) is still in the works. Is it about H.P. Lovecraftian elder gods? I hope so. After listening to
this monstrous sound bite that found it's way online, I can't help but think of something with lots of terrifying tentacles. And no, I am not talking about Winona Ryder's agent!
