Untrue Fact: The Gemini Awards were started in 1958 by a group of elitist astrologers of the same sign. They gave out awards in categories such as ‘Cutest Gemini’ and ‘Gemini that is totally the funniest.’ In 1975 this was deemed ‘astrological exclusivism’ by the Coalition of Astrology Theorists Pursuing Openness and Objectivity (CATPOO) – and the organizers were forced to start giving awards to other, lesser birth signs in categories focusing on Canadian Broadcasting.
True Fact: The Gemini Awards were first handed out in 1986, to acknowledge achievement in Canadian television, and the academy currently gives awards in 87 categories. This year’s show will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan, this Sunday night.
Now consider this: Which bit of information was more fun, the True Fact or the Untrue Fact? Exactly. And that’s why True Facts have become an endangered factual sub-genre. It's people like you.

But I’ll let it slide, this being Friday and all. And because I’m pretty pumped for the big show on Sunday. Showcase will be representing harder than something that represents extremely hard, with a whole slew of shows up for awards. Among them are
Rent-A-Goalie, which premieres its new season this Sunday at 9:30pm (and whose smoking new website may or may not have been produced by your boy Reginald),
Slings and Arrows and
Regenesis.
Catch the show
on CBC this Sunday the 28th at 8pm ET/PT. Then change the channel to Showcase at 9:30 to watch
Rent-A-Goalie. What you do after that is totally up to you. Seriously, I don’t care.
And while we’re talking I thought I’d throw a couple of links your way on this fresh and fabulous Friday:
- What better way to get pumped for the NBA season than watching Grizzlies rook Michael Conley do a bunch of completely useless though strangely impressive things
with a basketball? This video is supposed to illustrate how Conley is a freak phenom of a ball-handler, yet there’s a guy partially in the frame on the right side doing all the exact same moves as Conley. As the internet would say: “WTF!?”
- What is going on with
this movie? Is this even real? Someone should mention to Christian Slater that the graphics in his new film look like they were made on an Apple II in ‘86 by a drunk guy. I don’t see Pixar losing any sleep over this.
- It recently came to my attention
The Kids in the Hall blatantly ripped off my all-time favourite viral vid
Pickle Surprise with
this little number. Pretty suspect.
- And finally, if your factual thirst has yet to be slaked, take a trip down memory lane with
Fact Blast II and the groundbreaking
original Fact Blast. You won’t be sorry.
You might actually be sorry,
Reggie.
