The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star tells of Nikki’s love affair with the daddy of all addictions.  Through a series of his playful diary entries spanning all of ‘87, and commentary from characters like his Motley Crue bandmate Tommy Lee and legendary shred-master Slash, we're along for the ride on Nikki's personal beat-down.  It’s like a romantic comedy.  Only where Tom Hanks shoots heroin into his dick.

Nikki gets into all kinds of crazy shit, from cooking his dope using toilet water to injecting an armful of brown sugar after a madcap misunderstanding at his dealer’s house.  There’s never a dull moment in the wacky existence of Mr. Sixx.

Though the hilarity takes a downturn in Nikki’s most famous misadventure, when he was declared legally dead after a massive overdose only to be resuscitated by paramedics injecting adrenaline into his heart.  Talk about a buzz-kill!  [Readers of tell all Crue autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band will note that this is the same incident which inspired Sixx to pen the seminal "Kick Start My Heart" - ed.] Though Nikki’s impregnable spirit was unscathed, as he headed home from the hospital to shoot up and change his voicemail message to “Hi, I’m not here because I’m dead”.  Good times.

Whether The Heroin Diaries gives you pause for reflection on the frightening realities of addiction, or just reminds you how fucked up rock stars are, it’s a pretty wild ride.  And through all the rock-star bravado, Nikki gives a surprisingly honest insight into the conflicted, degenerate, and deeply remorseful world of a junkie.  In the words of the man himself:

“I…believe that you can be cool as fuck, not give a fuck and fucking kick ass in life, and not be fucked up.”
