Plastic Sheets on the Seats

Tuesday, October 02, 2007 3:11 PM

Everybody enjoys a good shocker from time to time, and I’m no exception.  Whether the shocking visuals of a fantasy film or the shock-value scares of a horror flick, I practically live to get shocked by shockers.  So you can imagine my delight at learning of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, which runs October 19th to 25th, and promises to shock the shit out of you.

I’ll be covering the Festival with the closely probing eye of a closely probing private eye, the discerning taste of a person with extremely discerning taste.  The movies of greatest interest* so far include the rat-faced post-apocalyptic zombie-invasion Mulberry Street, and the South Korean gross-out animated feature Aachi and Ssipak.

But my greatest interest is the master-work of the self-proclaimed “most critically maligned filmmaker of his generation.”  I’m talking about Uwe Boll, and his $60 million opus, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.  I’ve been tracking this thing for a long time now, and can’t wait to actually see it.

I’ll be giving updates from the Festival, film reviews and any other info I can dig up.  Hope to see you there!

A little scared already.  Hold me,
Reggie.

*  - This ‘greatest interest’ indicates ‘second greatest interest’, always to be assumed when Uwe Boll is involved.
