Just a quickie reco- post for now. Monday is always a hectic kick-off of the week, so last night, to conserve our strength and brain cells, the missus and I opted to hunker down in front of the tube and watch several hours of TV on DVD. Rather than going for the usual HBO fare, we sought out a off-beat program recommended by a friend,
Long Way Round.

It's a documentary/reality show starring Ewan MacGregor and Charley Boorman. The premise is simple; the two British actors plan and embark on a trip where they pilot pimped out BMW bikes east from London, across Europe, Russia and Asia and from Alaska to New York - hence the title, the Long Way Round. The pair are great friends and the show toggles between the gritty travelogue of their journey and the making of the show, including all of the border guard bribes and autographs signed.
Their adventures are alternately comical, inspiring and nearly always filthy and splattered with the dirty off the 20,000 miles they cross in their three month journey. Despite MacGregor's status as a globally known star, Long Way Round isn't cocooned by money and there is a palpable sense of danger and adventure throughout their long slog.
All ten episodes are available on DVD at finer neighbourhood video stores.
