Happy Hump Day! Here's a quick tiddy-bit for ya, there's a new movie premiering this fall that brings the
Real Doll phenomenon to the big screen.
Lars and the Real Girl, starring Oscar nominee and Canuck Ryan Gosling, is a story of a lonely guy living in a small U.S. town who passes off one of these rubber ladies as his girlfriend in public. The town decides to play along with the bizarre gag and adopts this life-size Barbie as one if its own. Dubbed Bianca, the doll is given its own personality as a wheelchair-bound missionary with training as a nurse. Plus, she’s extremely flexible in bed.
Nicknamed "Love Dolls" by its creators, these silicone partner-replacement apparatuses were introduced in 1996 and marketed to single males looking for something more sturdy than plastic blow-up dolls for real play. Real Dolls are made to order (hair colour, breast size - you name it) and are equipped to handle the most rigorous lovemaking techniques. The dolls were profiled in in this creepy and appropriate-titled documentary
Guys and Dolls found here and also make occasional TV cameos, like in
this episode of
Nip/Tuck.Hopefully this off-beat flick brings your beat back too.
