You know when you see a new idea and think to yourself “I totally could have thought of that, I just didn’t”? Well I don’t get that feeling, as my ideas are prominently crap, (see: A fly swatter that says “Don’t BUG Me” on it). However, if I ever did think that, I have the feeling I would be thinking it now.
It seems that Christine and Justin of NYC have come up with the painfully simple idea of painting pictures of things they want, and then selling the paintings for the exact value of the things in them. They whipped up a
cute little website, and watched their wants start pouring in (or out? Meta). They’ve already sold out (evidently) their want of chicken wings ($12.70) and a second controller for Guitar Hero II ($64.98), and are still waiting for some kind soul to alleviate their want for an iPhone ($649.17).
YOU: That’s not art! These guys are blow-hards!
Maybe so, though it’s worth noting that Justin also operates the website
nycgarbage.com, where for $50 he’ll mail you a clear plastic box full of trash.
YOU: Oh, in that case, forget it. They’re awesome artists.
ME: Agreed!
YOU: I can’t stay mad on a Friday!
ME: That would make a great slogan on a novelty t-shirt!
YOU: No it wouldn’t!
Yes it would!
