First off, happy belated Canada Day to you and a tip of our toques south to our Yank friends for a happy Independence Day too.
Speaking of going down south, I was fortunate to meet a young American entrepreneur recently who's ambition has sparked a world-wide franchise based an her erotic idea. Molly Crabapple (named by a former boyfriend who thought she was crabby, I thought she was highly energetic) was an art student and artist's model. But she found the traditional process of sketching uninspiring and wanted to do more.
So nearly two years ago she started Dr. Sketchy's anti-art school at a nearby pub in Brooklyn, NY that infused tassel-twirling burlesque dancers, music and themed sketching sessions (on one occasion all the organizers dressed up as accountants and sketchers drew on adding machine tape). The idea was so successful that she's now licensing the idea internationally with sessions in Canada, Japan, Australia, Italy and Finland to name a few. In fact, each city seems to have taken its own twist on the session, Rome has fetish-based sessions while Sydney brings in fire breathers for the public audiences (comprised of art students, hippies, you name it).
She even posed twice when models cancelled last-minute, having to run home and grab her bikini to make sure the show lived on. I'd definitely suggest sharpening your pencils and checking it out.
Here are links to other Canadian cities that host Dr. Sketchy's: Toronto and Vancouver,
Happy Humpin!
