Pop-quiz B.L.O.G.S!
Q: What’s my favourite Toronto acronym?
a) SMOG (
Sanjaya Malakar Obsession? Guilty)
b) MILF (Men In
Leather Fedoras)
c) TIFF (1.Teleport Into Future. 2. Fornicate)
d) TIFF (
Toronto International Film Festival)

If you guessed d) you win, and this year’s film fest is coming at you faster than a baseball thrown at a very high rate of speed. This week saw the announcement of the big gala opener: the premiere of
Elizabeth: The Golden Age. The films predecessor,
Elizabeth, bagged seven Oscar nominations including Best Actress in a Leading Role for the always awesome
Cate Blanchett. In
The Golden Age, Ms. Blanchett reprises her role of Queen Elizabeth I, this time facing dark familial betrayal and bloodlust for her throne.
Also returning are
Geoffrey Rush and director
Shekhar Kapur, while British mega-stud
Clive Owen joins the fray as Sir Walter Raleigh, a dashing seafarer and the object of Elizabeth’s affections. This film’s as big as it gets, and is sure to get the festival off on the right foot (unlike last year’s
Borat debacle). Running September 6th to 15th, Showcase.ca will be at the fest to bring you movie reviews, interviews and info from inside the events.
God bless the Thursday,
Reg.
