Sarah Silverman is tired of playing a bitch in other people's films so now she gets to play one in her very own TV show!
The Sarah Silverman Program is a six-episode sitcom that has already debuted to rave reviews for Comedy Central in the U.S. and premieres in Canada tomorrow night on The Comedy Network. It all hangs on that special brand of politically incorrect yarn which Sarah also employs in her feature stand-up musical Jesus Is Magic.
The show stars two of her former cast mates (Brian Posehn and Jay Johnston) from the HBO comedy, Mr. Show and also shares some of it's pointed offbeat humour, but that's just my lazy take.
Most of the critics - though enthusiastic - are also hard pressed to offer anything other than lame comparisons to other shows you may be familiar with!
Here's a list of some of the shows to which Silverman's show has been likened by a wide array of critics:
The New York Times - Alessandra Stanley - Curb Your Enthusiasm
Variety - Brian Lowry - Pee-Wee's Playhouse
Detroit Free Press - Mike Duffy - South Park
New York Post - Linda Stasi - Seinfeld
Chicago Sun-Times - Doug Elfman - Chappelle's Show
San Francisco Chronicle - Tim Goodman - Strangers With Candy
The New Yorker - Tad Friend - Action
LA Weekly - Robert Abele - Wonder Showzen
Time - James Poniewozik - Borat - Da Ali G Show
Seattle Post-Intelligencer - Melanie McFarland - Get a Life
Washington Post - Lavanya Ramanathan - 30 Rock
The Sarah Silverman Program premieres on The Comedy Network, Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, beginning March 1st.
