Canadians who didn't make the cut in either
Rock Star series, are soaking up another opportunity to play in reality TV's big leagues. But this time, it's filmmakers who are set to be fired, voted off and
sautéed in wrong sauce.
Canadian submissions for
On The Lot, a new Mark Burnett (
Survivor, The Apprentice) and Steven Spielberg (
War of the Worlds,
ET) reality show, have been so successful that producers have added Vancouver to their Canadian casting tour that already includes Toronto.
The new series will challenge 16 aspiring international filmmakers in a directing competition, with the winner getting a cool $1-million development deal with DreamWorks. The show's format will feature some Survivor-esque qualities: two teams compete each week to create short films in every possible genre (no word if little people porn is one of them), with losing teams eliminating a team member per challenge. The new series starts airing this spring.
To begin the entry process, filmmakers must submit a self-directed short film postmarked by February 16th, then producers will visit the two Canadian cities in March for invite-only casting calls based on their selections. Click
