Not only is T.G.I. Friday a
fabulous restaurant, it’s also a North American turn-of-phrase that translates loosely to “I am happy that it is Friday today.” The reason people would use such a phrase would be that either: a) That day is their birthday; or b) It’s Friday. (It's more often than not the latter.)
To celebrate this Friday, I have picked out some movies that you can rent to keep that Friday feeling buzzing all weekend long. Just don’t forget to go back to work on Monday, that wouldn’t be very Friday at all. That would be totally Tuesday.
Let’s get to it!

Friday the Thirteenth Part III – The problem with the
Friday the 13th series was that by the time
part nine rolled around, Jason was all smug and complacent. He was like the fat-cat of serial killers. But in part three it really meant something. When he would put on the hockey mask he knew it was a responsibility to kill horny teenagers, a privilege. Damn you Jason Voorhees - you broke my heart. By not stabbing me in it.

Friday – A stylized reflection on the passing of time and the anticipatory nature of youth culture today. Oh, and weed. Tons and tons of weed. And if you like
Friday, be sure to check out
Next Friday and
Friday After Next – almost six hours of Friday! That’s almost as long as the actual day.

Freaky Friday – In this movie Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are a mother and daughter duo who wake up one morning having switched bodies. While the movie is lots of fun, I just don’t think the circumstances involved warrant the use of the term ‘freaky.’ Like if they switched bodies only Lindsay Lohan then became a robotic ghost, then we’re into freaky territory, but as it stands I think ‘Unusual Friday’ would be much more appropriate. I'm just saying.

Frida – This double Oscar winner tells the touching story of Salma Hayek learning to paint, then going on a breathtaking hike across the Nicaraguan countryside with nothing to eat or drink other than the pineapple wine distilled by wandering alchemists known as “Fridas.” Alright, I haven’t seen it. But it would be awesome if it was about that.

Friday Night Lights – This is a movie about high-school football, but it’s so good that you’ll like it even if you don’t like football. You would even probably like it if you didn’t like high school. Or if you hate lights and nights and Fridays. You could be the most cynical, unpleasant person on the face of the planet, and this movie is so good that it will melt through the icy cage you keep your heart in and fill it with love and courage and hope.
Now that’s what I call T.G.I. Friday!
